PRITHVI THEATRE FESTIVAL

The Prithvi Theatre Festival is an annual feature of the Prithvi calendar, usually starting in early November and running anywhere from a week to three weeks.

The focus of the Festival varies from year to year - in the past, festivals have focused on local Mumbai groups, invited groups from across India, featured international groups. Some festivals have also been theme-based - most recently, the 2007 Festival was Mumbai Musicals, featuring musicals by Mumbai groups, while the 2006 Festival, celebrating Prithviraj Kapoor's birth centenary, took as its theme his theatre company's motto - Kala Desh Ki Seva Mein - and invited groups from across India which sought to deal with contemporary socio-political issues in their work.

Since 2004, the Festival has begun including an exhibition on a theatre personality or movement every two years : the 2004 exhibition was on Habib Tanvir and Naya Theatre and 2006 saw an exhibition on Prithviraj Kapoor & Prithvi Theatres. Look out for our next exhibition at the 2008 Festival.

Every exhibition gets turned into an exciting yearbook, a delicious theatre memorabilia which is available for you at Prithvi Theatre. Contact
sameera@prithvitheatre.org if you would like to know more about the yearbooks, and how to avail of them.
